The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Pro Retina Display, model A1502, features fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and introduces the Force Touch trackpad.

Trackpad connector on logicboard seems broken

My mac's trackpad and keyboard stopped working recently, I cannot move the cursor or type anything, but I can turn on the device and do a smc reset with it.

when I turn the device on, I can click on the force touch trackpad but the clicks doesn't do anything. I just can press on it and I feel the click.

Since I knew it is a hardware issue, I opened my device since it's out of warranty t check the trackpad board on the logicboard.

I've included 2 pictures of it zooming on the trackpad board showing how it looked like...

It seems like the left side of the board is somehow damaged.

Is this causing the problem? if not, what's the problem? can I fix it myself?

thanks in advance

It does look like someone was a bit rough on the connector. Here's an image of the main logic board which you can compare yours to: 13" MacBook Pro Retina (Early 2015) Logic Board.

At this point I think your issue is more likely the cable that goes to your trackpad or the trackpad logic where the signals for both the keyboard and trackpad come together.

Did you spill something onto your system or put it down on a wet surface?

do you think the trackpad flex cable is broken?

I did not spill anything or put it on any wet surface..

one thing I should mention is that sometimes I could make the trackpad work by making pressure to back of the laptop (exactly around where the trackpad cable connects to the board). but it doesn't work anymore. I'm kind of sure the problem is in that area.

what do you think?

If you strongly believe the issue is the connector on the logic board then you'll need to send your system to someone who can do the needed micro-soldering and has access to the part. Otherwise you'll need to replace the logic board.

I think I would first try the cable it's a lot cheaper!

You're right, I'll try to find somewhere selling those and test a new cable, hopefully that will fix it. I'll comment the result here. thanks for your help though

I tried a new trackpad cable and it worked!! Everything is working perfectly!

Thank you Dan
